Google Volatility Strikes Again

Media/News

SEOs have begun to speculate about SERP volatility once again. Comments made by various experts in WebmasterWorld have shown that traffic is fluctuating after a calm few days in the SEO world.

These comments were made on January 24, 2024, on WebmasterWorld:

Earlier in January, people reported a bug that would affect certain sites over the weekend and recover on the weekdays. Could this be related?

Search Engine Roundtable’s Barry Schwartz hypothesizes that Google is undergoing an unconfirmed algorithm update. He reports,

“Right now, there is only one tool showing volatility, and that would be Semrush. The other tools are all relatively calm right now, but that can change later today and tomorrow. But I am also seeing a significant amount of chatter in the past 24- hours.”

Schwartz also reports that some SEOs think this volatility has to do with a bug in Google Analytics. However, many people have seen high fluctuations in rankings, giving the idea that this volatility may have to do with an update rather than a bug.

Only time will tell. We will be on the lookout for an update from Google.
