Linkarati Roundup #70: Halloween Edition

Cory Collins | October 30, 2015

Hello all and welcome to a special edition of the Linkarati Roundup! Each and every week I take the time to curate the best SEO and link building content published, creating a short list of must-read posts.

This week, with Halloween looming on Saturday, I also have some fun costume shots from the P1P staff as well as a few office shots. If you want to see how we do Halloween here at Page One Power, make sure you scroll all the way down.

Hello all and welcome to a special edition of the Linkarati Roundup! Each and every week I take the time to curate the best SEO and link building content published, creating a shortlist of must-read posts.

This week, with Halloween looming on Saturday, I also have some fun costume shots from the P1P staff as well as a few office shots. If you want to see how we do Halloween here at Page One Power, make sure you scroll all the way down.

1. Jack Clark's "Google Turning Its Lucrative Web Search Over to AI Machines."

Huge, breaking news about Google. Apparently Google launched a new AI (machine learning?) algorithm months ago without anyone noticing. This new algorithm, named RankBrain, is designed to help Google pull better results for unique or natural language searches. Read our full coverage here: http://www.pageonepower.com/linkarati/google-rankbrain-algorithm-information

2. Barry Schwartz's "Google: Penguin Update Will Still Happen in 2015."

Although this post from Barry is based upon a single word in a single tweet from a Google employee (Gary Illyes), it's a good reminder that Penguin is likely less than two months away. If you're worried about Penguin, now is the time to take action.

3. Rand Fishkin's "Link Building Outreach in a Skeptical World - WBF."

Since the release of BuzzSumo and Moz's study finding that social shares have zero correlation with links, Rand has been pushing the manual aspect (building) of link earning. Here Rand is back with tactical advice about link building outreach - a good video to watch for anyone concerned with SEO or content.

4. Bill Sebald's "Are Your Analytics Telling the Right Story?"

We all know the importance of analytics, but we all have a large list of priorities. How often do you truly make the time to dig into analytics properly? How often do you pop open your analytics platform, glance at your typical metrics, and move on? If you're anything like me, juggling constant responsibilities, you should make the time to read this post. Bill will remind you of the importance of analytics, and give you an actionable path forward to using analytics effectively.

5. Andrew Dennis' "Supporting New Marketing Initiatives With Link Building" and "Pursuing Real Links for an SEO Campaign."

Our own Andrew Dennis has two posts worth reading this week. The first, on SEL, highlights how links can build important visibility for new marketing initiatives. A good read if you're involved in a new marketing strategy, or interested in learning more about building links for big businesses. The second is on Kerboo, about what makes a link real, and why chasing any other links is a waste of time.

Halloween Here at Page One Power

We had a swell time celebrating All Hallow's Eve here at P1P.

We decorated the office, dressed up both as groups and individually, and the marketing department even put on a week long game of Clue (featured above)!

Let's show the winners of our various contests:

Best Overall Costume

Trisha Miller - Rick Grimes - The Walking Dead

Most Creative Costume

David Kirby - Solid Snake - Metal Gear Solid

Scariest Costume

Amy Merrill - Jigsaw - Saw Franchise

Weirdest Costume (not an easy feat at P1P!)

Amanda Earley - Zombie Bannana

Funniest Costume

Joel Palmer - Cat Lady:

Backstory: It's worth noting here that Joel Palmer's costume was inspired by the real cat he was holding, Mew. Mew was extremely ill earlier this year, and P1People banded together to help send Mew to the veterinarian. This is Mew's triumphant return.

Best Group Costume

Tie: The Animals and Metal Gear Solid Characters

The Animals:

Metal Gear Solid Group:

A Few Office Decorations

That's all for this week folks! Thanks for reading, and from everyone here at P1P have a great weekend and a safe Halloween! Cheers.
